The president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Asia Foundation will work on enhancing the skills of female garment workers and promoting a sustainable work environment.

In this regard, a delegation of the Asia Foundation met with the BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan at his office today (Saturday) to discuss mutual cooperation for the development of Bangladesh's readymade garment (RMG) industry, according to a press release.

The meeting, held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, emphasized skill development, leadership growth, and ensuring the overall well-being of female workers in the apparel sector.

The Asia Foundation delegation included Country Representative Kazi Faisal Bin Seraj, Program Director Aini Islam, and Communications & Outreach Lead Kashfia Kais.

BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan praised the Asia Foundation's ongoing efforts in the garment sector's development.

He stated that the garment industry is a key driver of Bangladesh's economy and that BGMEA is especially committed to the safety and welfare of its female workers.

The BGMEA President also said that partnerships with international organizations like the Asia Foundation are crucial for achieving these goals.

During the meeting, The Asia Foundation expressed interest in collaborating with BGMEA on several initiatives to empower female garment workers.

These include training programs for skill development, health and safety initiatives, mid-level management training, establishing community-based day-care facilities, and introducing circularity in the garment industry.

Both parties expressed hope that the meeting would strengthen their relationship and create new opportunities for joint activities, which will make Bangladesh's garment industry more humane and sustainable.
