A 4-day director general-level border conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India's Border Security Force (BSF) will begin in New Delhi, India on Monday.
A 13-member Bangladesh delegation led by BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui will attend the conference, said Mohammad Shariful Islam, Public Relations Officer at the BGB Headquarters.
The Bangladesh delegation will also include senior BGB officials, representatives from the Office of the Chief Adviser, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Land Records and Survey, and the Joint Rivers Commission.
BGB-BSF talks in New Delhi on Feb 17-20
The conference will discuss various issues including prevention of shooting, killing, injuring, detention or abduction of unarmed Bangladeshi nationals along the border; curbing the smuggling of drugs, arms, ammunition, and other contraband items India to Bangladesh.
Besides, preventing illegal border crossings, especially the forced entry of displaced Myanmar nationals into Bangladesh through the Indian border; halting establishment of unauthorised infrastructure including installation of barbed wire fences within 150 yards of the border, initiatives to enhance bilateral relations, mutual trust, and friendship will come up for discussion.
The conference will formally conclude on February 20 and the Bangladesh delegation will return home the same day.
